Majority of UML MPs for extending CA by a year

KATHMANDU, May 14: Majority parliamentarians of the ruling CPN-UML on Friday suggested that the party leadership propose to extend the Constituent Assembly (CA) term by one year.



The two-year tenure of the CA expires on May 28.[break]



UML parliamentarians advised the party to this effect in a parliamentary party meeting held on Friday morning at Singha Durbar.



"Though different members had different opinions but majority of the members were for extending the CA term by one year. This is a feedback to the party," UML Chief Whip, Bhim Acharya, told Republica.



The meeting was held a day before the party´s central committee (CC) meeting that is scheduled for Saturday.



The third-largest party in the CA called its CC meeting to formulate its stance on CA term extension and ongoing political crisis.
