Major parties positive on redrawing provinces

By
KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Major three parties have turned positive on changing boundaries of provinces adopted by the newly-promulgated constitution.

A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday morning concluded that provinces can be redrawn to rope in agitating parties to consensus.

“We held serious discussions on entire political issue,” UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said, “Mainly, positive discussions were held on addressing suggestion of federal commission through political means.”

The constitution states that federal commission will take final decision on boundaries of provinces. But, major parties have concluded that suggestion of the commission can be changed on the basis of political agreement.

The meet also discussed pre-conditions set by agitating Madheshi Front for talks.
