Mahesh wins gold in Asian bodybuilding

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Nepali bodybuilder Mahesh Maharjan has won the gold medal on Tuesday in his weight category at the 50th Asian Bodybuilding Championship being held in Thimpu, Bhutan. 

Mahesh finished ahead of 10 competitors in the 70 kg weight category to secure first place finish in the event, according to Rajan Shrestha, the general secretary of Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association. 

“19 years of my hardwork & dedication in Bodybuilding & Fitness Profession, thank you all for your great support best wishes,” Mahesh has written on his Facebook after winning the gold. 

Mahesh's gold medal haul in the weight category means he will also get a chance to vie in the overall category. The gold medal winner of each weight category is allowed to vie for the title of overall championship. 

Suresh Gurung and Ram Bahadur Dahal who competed in the 55 kg and 65 kg categories failed to cross the pre-judging round, the initial rounds.

Bimal Lal Shrestha and Bijay Ratna Bajracharya are set to take part in the men's event of the sports physique while the only women participant from Nepal, Nirmala Khadka, will vie in different women's section events.
