KATHMANDU, July 29: Sadbhawana Party (SP) Chairman Rajendra Mahato said that it was necessary to hold Constituent Assembly (CA) elections on the scheduled date to defeat forces against federal democratic republic.

Issuing a press note on Sunday, Mahato said it was necessary to delineate constituencies on the basis of population as per the clause of Article 63 (3).

“To lower the representation of Madhesis by decreasing the number of their constituencies is a ploy to further sideline them,” said Mahato, adding, “Madhes should get a minimum of 51% representation out of the total constituencies as Madhes makes up more than half of the national population.” [break]

He stressed that CA polls must be held on the scheduled date of November 19. “If the November polls get derailed, the country has to suffer a massive instability.” He was of the view that the agitating parties should also participate in the polls process.

Party spokesperson Santosh Mehta said that before the third week of August they will complete their awareness campaign in all 20 Tarai districts. “As part of this program, we will organize corner meets and carry out other public campaigns, addressing the people,” said Mehta.

Central committee member of SP Rajeev Jha said, “We are taking initiatives to draw the attention of the government to withdraw cases against armed outfits so that they can also join peaceful politics.” He further stressed that the Tarai centered armed outfits should join mainstream politics for peaceful politics in Tarai. “It would be further easier for us to work for Madhesi cause, if they (armed outfits) join our party,” said Jha.
