Mahato on Tuesday launched a fast-unto-death at Shanti Batika in the capital after rounds of talks with the Interim Election Council did not yeild results. SP has floated 10-point demands, including announcement of election date and fresh delineation of electoral constituencies before the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.“[break]

He also accused other parties of hatching a conspiracy against fresh CA election. The Madhes-based party has also demanded that cases against leaders and cadres of the armed outfits, which have already held talks with the government, be withdrawn.
SP has maintained that withdrawal of cases will pave the way for the armed outfits to participate in the fresh election.
The party has also stressed on amending the existing directive related to citizenship distribution so that citizenships may also be issued on the basis of mother´s nationality.
Similarly, SP has demanded that farmers be given subsidies while buying chemical fertilizers, seeds and agricultural equipment. The party has been staging protests across Madhes for the last 19 days. Meanwhile, the government has urged SP to withdraw all protest programs stating that it is positive about the 10-point demands floated by SP.
Secretary at the cabinet Krishna Hari Baskota, issuing a statement on Tuesday, said the government has been preparing to announce poll date and to form commission on electoral constituencies at the earliest.
Baskota has maintained that the government has been holding consultations over poll date with various political parties, including the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).
