Maharjan, Shrestha defeated in World Boxing C'ship

KATHMANDU: Nepali pugilists Deepak Maharjan and Deepak Shrestha both lost their bouts during the World Boxing Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan.



Maharjan, who competed in men´s 81 kg section, lost his first bout against a Finnish boxer on Wednesday. According to Nepal Boxing Association President Rajiv Shrestha, Maharjan was defeated by Hukkanen Ville. Maharjan was the only medalist for Nepal during the Guangzhou Asian Games held in China in 2010.[break]



Shrestha also suffered a similar fate on Tuesday as he was defeated by Biddle David of Australia in his first bout of men´s 64 kg category.

Another Nepali boxer Jivesh Shrestha will face Isakov Shakhriyor of Uzbekistan in men´s 56 kg section on Thursday.



The five-member Nepali team comprises the three boxers, chief coach Om Maskey and manager Arjun Bahadur KC, who is also the vice-president of Nepal Boxing Association.
