DANG, Nov 6: Chairperson of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara should face action in accordance with the prevailing laws.

“It is almost proved that he (Mahara) is convicted for a particular type of crime. Therefore, he should be punished for his wrongdoings. The whole nation is expecting this, not only me,” stated Dahal while speaking at a press conference in Ghorahi on Wednesday.

According to Dahal, Mahara lied to him when he asked the latter immediately after he faced sexual abuse allegations. “I sent the party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha to get informed about the incident, however, he lied. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that he is guilty,” reiterated Dahal.

Further speaking, he said that he has been regularly holding discussions with Co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in this connection. Mahara had stepped down from the post of speaker after he advised him to do so, according to Dahal.

Dahal on the occasion also said, “Although Mahara had made a significant contribution to the 10-year-long Maoist movement, I strongly insist that anyone should be penalized if such a grave allegation is proved.”

On a different note, he revealed that the government employees don’t obey not only him but also PM Oli. “Sometimes, I warn of launching movement for this particular reason. If this state of affairs continues, I’ll surely go for agitation," said he.

Talking about the capital of Province 5, he opined that Dang is the appropriate place.

Dahal arrived in Dang for a cadre training program which is scheduled to be held in Tulsipur.
