Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai inaugurated the four-day event which is being organized with the slogan ´Ours is Own´ to enhance intimacy of local products among domestic consumers.
“The event is aimed at promoting locally produced goods and services in a bid to gradually replace the imported items, thereby, eventually protecting domestic industries,” said Anoj Kumar Shrestha.
Shrestha also said the expo would also be instrumental in promoting exports of local products in foreign markets against the backdrop of growing trade deficit the country is facing.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Bhattarai expressed hope that the fair would provide young entrepreneurs with an opportunity to promote their products among local consumers.
“If we succeed in promoting our own products in local market it would ultimately boost our economic growth,” said Bhattarai.
Event coordinator Ajay Bhakta Pradhananga, said current fair is focused on trading of Nepali goods and services unlike the previous events that were aimed at branding products.
He also said that the event would promote the feeling of entrepreneurship within the country at a time when hundreds of thousands of youths are leaving the country for foreign employment.
According to organizers, ninety local exhibitors have showcased their products that include readymade garments, home appliances, electronic goods, cosmetics, handicrafts items, footwear, carpets and Pashmina products. Similarly, local educational institutions are also among the exhibitors.
Host of entertainment programs like live concerts, comedy shows and fun-park for children as well as free health check -ups are some of the features at the event.
