Lokesh Bam’s century in vain as Ireland ‘A’ beat Nepal in T20 practice match

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal 'A' faced defeat against Ireland 'A' by 21 runs in a T20 practice match held on Friday. Despite Lokesh Bam's remarkable century, Nepal could not clinch victory.

KATHMANDU, March 29: Nepal 'A' faced defeat against Ireland 'A' by 21 runs in a T20 practice match held on Friday. Despite Lokesh Bam's remarkable century, Nepal could not clinch victory.


Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Ireland 'A' set a huge target of 223 runs to the home team Nepal losing 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Nepal was all out for 201 runs in 19.3 overs. 


Nepal's Lokesh Bam scored a quickfire 106 runs off 56 balls. Similarly, Aarif Sheikh scored 49 runs in 26 balls. However, other players could not keep up the tempo as Nepal fell short of the target by 21 runs. Binod Bhandari contributed 16 runs off 14 balls.

Ireland's bowler Finn Hand and Matthew James Humphreys took three wickets each. Foster took 2 wickets while Tom Mayes and Gavin Hoey took one each.


Earlier, Ireland's Peter Moor scored 49 off 32 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. Opener Ross Adair was caught out by Aarif Sheikh at the first slip in the second ball.


Kamal Singh Airee, who returned to the game after two years due to injury layoff, caught out by Ross Adair. After that, Peter Moor and Cade Carmichael shared an 88-run partnership for the second wicket and laid the foundations for a huge total.


Cade was dismissed lbw by Sagar Dhakal for 38 off 29 balls with 4 fours and one six. Stephen Doheny was dismissed for 34 off 16 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.


Neil Rock scored 38 off 23 balls with one four and three sixes and Gareth Delany scored 30 runs off 14 balls with two fours and three sixes. Gavin Hoey scored 18 runs off six balls with two sixes.


Nepal's Kamal Singh Airee took three wickets giving away 39 runs in four overs. Aarif Sheikh and Sagar Dhakal took one wicket each.


The match which was initially scheduled for Thursday was postponed for Friday due to rain.
