Locals, police control Mahakali deluge

KANCHANPUR, Aug 21: Locals, and security personnel on Saturday took under control a deluge of the Mahakali River that breached a portion of the embankment at Pipariya area at Bhimdutta Municipality and was about to enter human settlements



Boulders and wire mess were filled in to control the deluge heading to villages after breaching 100-meter section of the 600-meter-long embankment, said the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. [break]



Police said that 27 families, who were at high risk of flooding, have been rescued. Locals are fearing about more breaching of the embankment as rainfall has not receded.



In another incident, Doda river has been rapidly breaching the embankment at Sakarapur-7, displacing three families of Jaguram Chaudhary, Lal Bahadur Chaudhary and Chitra Bahadur Chaudhary. The river has swept away more than five bighas of land in one night.



A flood in Banahara river has also displaced six families of freed Kamaiyas.
