Locals excited about playing host to national games athletes

MAHENDRANAGAR, Feb 26: As Mahendranagar, one of the host cities of the Sixth National Games, is all set to host athletes, coaches and technical personalities of 13 different sports, the locals here are quite excited.



There was uncertainty looming over the game´s fate until the last hour, but as the opening ceremony is all set to take place on Sunday, Mahendranagar is crowded with national athletes and coaches.[break]



Most participating athletes arrived in Mahendranagar by Friday evening and many are still reaching here. The athletes observed venues of their respective games in Mahendranagar which is hosting 13 different events.



The Mahendranagar Covered Hall and its premises will host men´s volleyball, men´s Kabaddi, wrestling, archery, men´s cricket, taekwando and wushu. Women´s cricket will be played at the Zonal Police Office premises while Rastriya Bal Bidyalaya will host Hockey. Chess will be organized in the hall of Nepal Constructors Association while women´s football will be organized at Khulamanch.



Bodybuilding events will be hosted in Hotel Opera while weightlifting will take place at the conference hall of local Chamber of Commerce.



Altogether 1700 athletes have been accommodated in 32 hotels as well as guest houses and halls of different offices. Some players have been accommodated in private houses as well.



Taekwando events will kick off on the opening day on Sunday in Mahendranagar.



Players dissatisfied with management



Though there is excitement all around, players have been complaining of mismanagement citing improper accommodation. They also complained that the local organizers are not responding their complaints.



Around 157 athletes are accommodated in the Regional Agricultural Training Center at Suda though its accommodation capacity is of only 50 persons. Sixty-five athletes of PLA Club and 92 athletes, coaches and officials of archery are accommodated there.



"We did not get anything to eat on Saturday. We complained to every responsible authorities but nobody addressed our problem," said Ramesh Siwakoti, secretary of Nepal Archery Association.



"We´ll settle all the problems by Sunday," said Kantu Ram Paneru, coordinator of the accommodation sub-committee. "We faced some problems in managing the huge number of players and officials as all of them arrived simultaneously," he added.
