TERHATHUM, Oct 4: Locals here in the district are now happy as the finance ministry allocated a budget required to blacktop the Basantapur-Myanglung road that now falls along the Mid-Hill Highway.

Local authorities started to blacktop the road after a gap of 35 years. They started the work as a total of Rs 2 billion 70 million has been allocated.

Laxman Tiwari, a provincial lawmaker of Terhathum said, “The Basantapur-Myanglung section of Pushpalal Mid Hill Highway Project is an important road as it connects the district headquarters Myanglung to other areas with a two-lane blacktopped road.”

Shiva Prasad Dhungana, chief of District Coordination Committee, said that the contractors have been asked to build the road strictly following the required standards.

Chief District Officer Chandrakala Oli, however, said that mere allocation of budget is not enough for the road project. “We need responsible contractors to complete the work in order to complete the road properly,” she said. “We have directed the contractors to carry out the construction work without hindering the movement of travelers during Dasahin- Tihar festivals.”

People who were often agitated and criticized their representatives due to the bad shape of the Basantapur Myanglung road section have now become excited seeing the progress.

Stakeholders have been demanding proper utilization of budget for efficient construction. Though the government had repaired the same road six years ago spending millions of rupees, that didn't last long. People faced difficulty mainly in taking serious patients to hospitals due to the dilapidated condition of the road.
