BIRATNAGAR, Sept 13: If people feel they will be able to escape adulteration by consuming imported products, they could be grossly wrong. Office of Standard and Metrology (OSM) on Tuesday caught employees of Radha Krishna Oil Industry while filling locally produced soybean oil in a container of Meizan, a popular Malaysian brand.

The office that conducted a sudden raid of the factory on Tuesday had found the oil industry of filling locally produced Kanchan brand of soybean oil in Meizan containers and selling them in the market as Malaysian product.[break]

Though Dev Narayan Katbe, proprietor of Radha Krishna Oil Industry, told OSM officials that the factory was closed a year ago, records show that it has been producing different brands of edible oils like Kanchan, 56 Bhog and Samsher.

“Interestingly, we found the factory of using small inconspicuous stickers on Meizan containers and selling its products,” said OSM chief Gopi Ghimire.

He told Republica that the inspection team sealed the factory and also seized 65 containers, each of 50 liters, of 56 Bhog soybean oil.

The team also handed over its documents to the Inland Revenue Office, suspecting that the proprietor could have evaded tax as well.
