NC leading in nationwide vote count tally

KATHMANDU, May 16: The results of the local level elections held on May 13 continue to come from across the country. The results till 1:30 PM today put the Nepali Congress (NC) in the first position and the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Center) are following it respectively. 


As per the latest available results, the NC has clinched the major posts of mayor/chair  in 49 local government units, including seven municipalities and 42 rural municipalities. The party has won polls for four deputy-mayors and 50 vice-chairs. 


Similarly, the CPN (UML) finds the second place in the results tally with three mayors and 38 chairs of rural municipalities in 41 units, in addition to five deputy-mayors and 31 vice-chairs.

Likewise, the CPN (Maoist Center) has won the elections for a mayor and 22 chairs in 23 local bodies, and two deputy-mayors and 15 vice chairpersons, according to the Election Commission.          


The CPN (Unified Socialist) has come out victorious, winning two chairs and six vice- chair posts while candidates from other political parties have won two chairs and four vice-chairs. 


The Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party has become victorious in the posts of one mayor and one-deputy-mayor.  


Until the filing of this report, the NC has emerged victorious at 1,071 local level wards. A total of 1,066 women members, 1,032 Dalit women members and 2,120 ward members have been elected on behalf of the party. 


Similarly, the UML has become victorious at 821 wards with the election of 883 women members, 864 Dalit women members and 1,779 ward members on behalf of it.


The Maoist Center has won the elections in 458 wards. It has won elections for 430 women members, 458 Dalit women members and 804 ward members while the Unified Socialist has emerged victorious at 67 wards. One hundred seventy eight ward chairs have been elected from other parties and among the independent candidates.
