Lightning kills two in Baglung, rains create havoc

BAGLUNG, June 11: Two people were killed in two separate incidents of lightning while incessant rains have created havoc in various parts of Baglung. According to police, rains have destroyed properties worth millions of rupees Tuesday. [break]



Kali Darji of Darling-1 died and six others were injured when they were hit by lightning. The condition of one of the injured, Dhan Kumari Darji, is said to be critical. Similarly, in another lightning incident, nine-year-old Asha BK of Devisthan-3 died and three others were seriously injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at Burtibang Primary Health Center, police informed. Also, a buffalo belonging to one Dev Bahadur KC of Bhinggithe VDC-5 died when hit by lightning.



Meanwhile, a landslide triggered by rains at Dudilabhati-2 has obstructed the Ghodabadhe-Dudilabhati road section. The lightning also caused damaged to the Bhujikhola-6 microhydry project disrupting power supply to around 200 households in the area.



Likewise, flood caused by heavy rains has swept away the under-construction bridge at Lasti along Beni-Maldhunga road section. Around 60 households are at risk due to the flood. Engineer of the bridge project, Anil Silwal, said the damage caused to the bridge, whose construction was almost 50 percent complete, has been estimated at around Rs 7 million rupees.



Swollen rivers have also damaged agricultural lands at Dhairing VDC-2 and Nagligwang VDC-9 in Parbat district. After the river swept away embankment, around 60 homes in Lasti bazaar are at risk, according to Hemlal Gautam, a local.
