KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Former King Gyanendra Shah on Sunday said that he had left the royal palace not the country.

Issuing a statement on the eve of birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, Gyanendra said, “I left palace, not Nepal.”

The former monarch added that he has not given up responsibilities toward Nepal and Nepalis.

Gyanendra said that he handed over the property of people to themselves for national interests and happiness and prosperity of people.

“The time demands revelation of responsibility, role and support people want,” reads the statement.

On a separate note, he expressed his concerns over current crisis and inflation.

“People are struggling to manage meals twice a day and it is issue of serious concern,” he said in a statement.
