CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has held interactions with locals in various areas in his electoral constituency. He has been proposed from Kathmandu constituency number 2 and his home district Rautahat. This time around, former prime minister Nepal is probably the first among top leaders to intensify election campaign as had lost from both the constituencies in the last election.
On Saturday, he reached Nanglebhare village on the outskirts of Kathmandu and interacted with various local groups. “He interacted with several local groups at Nanglebhare, Sankhu and Jarsing Pauwa areas,” Nepal´s aide Mohan Gautam told Republica.
He stayed there in the village last night, attended a public function on Sunday morning and returned to his residence at Koteshwar, where scores of local leaders had gathered seeking his support for their candidacies.
He has planned to go to Rautahat later this week. He will stay in the capital for another couple of days as he is to attend the party´s standing committee meeting scheduled to start from Monday.
CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, who has been proposed from Kathmandu-5, has also intensified interactions with locals in the constituency. According to his aides, Pokharel has been holding interactions with people from all sections, especially the neutral voters.
“The general secretary is scheduled to visit a Dalit settlement in Maharajgunj at 7 am Monday,” said Pokharel´s personal secretary Deependra Shrestha. “He will then attend a gathering at ward number 4.”
According to Shrestha, Pokharel has set aside morning and evening hours for his election constituency and day time for party activities. During the day time, he works on drafting the party´s manifesto and meets with local leaders who have gathered in Kathmandu.
Another UML youth leader Yogesh Bhattarai, who has been proposed from Kathmandu-6, has also stepped up his meetings with locals and professional groups. “I have been meeting with people from villages and municipality wards that fall under my constituency,” said Bhattarai.
UCPN (Maoist) leaders Hisila Yami and Nanda Kishor Pun, who are going to contest from Kathmandu-7 and Kathmandu-4 constituency respectively, have also stepped up their campaign.
According to Ishwar Rijal, a Maoist leader from the constituency, Yami has been holding informal gatherings with cadres and grassroots committees.
Pun held several rounds of separate meetings with local clubs, social workers and social organizations active in the constituency.
Nepali Congress leader Nabindra Raj Joshi said he has already held some rounds of discussions with people from Chamati, Bafal, Tahachal and Yatkha in Kathmandu-8 over the last couple of days.
Also NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh has begun his campaign in Kathmandu-1. He held interactions with various groups on Saturday.
As all the major political parties are yet to make formal announcement of the candidates, the leaders are holding informal meetings and consultations.
