KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The agitating lawyers have announced not to plead cases before any of the benches at the Supreme Court.

The lawyers have announced to boycott hearings at the call of Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella organization of lawyers, after a few agitating lawyers were injured in the course of scuffle with police on the Supreme Court premises on Thursday. The lawyers have taken to the streets demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Rana.

Addressing the protest rally, NBA General Secretary Lila Mani Paudyal said they have decided not to plead any cases before SC benches on Friday in order to protest against police intervention in their peaceful protests. The lawyers had been pleading on behalf of cases related to habeas corpus even as they started their protests against CJ Rana nearly two weeks ago.

The agitating lawyers staged a sit-in protest on the premises of the Supreme Court on Thursday. At least six lawyers including the office-bearers of NBA were injured as police rained batons to disperse the agitating lawyers.

Security has been beefed up at the SC following the incident. Armed Police Force (APF) personnel are also seen on the premises of the apex court.
