Law minister tables amendment motion

KATHMANDU, May 28: Law Minister Prem Bahadur Singh has tabled the government´s amendment bill that will extend the term of the Constituent Assembly by a year. This is the 8th amendment of the Interim Constitution.



Earlier, the meeting of the Legislative-Parliament began less than 20 minutes before the CA term expires on Friday midnight. Maoist lawmaker Dev Gurung was the first to speak. He said his party wants to withdraw the opposition notice against the government bill extending the term of the Constituent Assembly by a year.



Sadbhawana Party MP Sarita Giri spoke after Gurung. She also had registered a similar notice. She withdrew the notice as well. She welcomed the consensus between the three major parties and hoped they would take other parties on board.



The House meeting was earlier scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
