KATHMANDU, June 9: Maoist Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai Wednesday accused the NC and UML of creating hurdles to army integration by putting a precondition for setting the number of combatants to be integrated.

During a meeting with UNMIN chief Karin Landgren at his residence at Shantinagar, he said the integration process should be taken forward by first assessing the wishes of the combatants and not by first fixing the numbers for integration.

He said the peace process is being delayed as the government and ruling parties have not taken the issue of integration seriously. He said the UCPN-Maoist is willing to complete the task of army integration at the earliest and focus on constitution writing but the government has not taken any initiative to this effect.

In the meeting, Landgren suggested the parties to work for consensus as failure to reach political consensus may result in the failure of writing the constitution even in the extended term of the CA and it may put the peace process in peril.
