Addressing party cadres in Bhaluwang of Dang district on Monday, Paudel asked them not to be confused by remarks for and against the resignation of the chairman of the Interim Election Council Regmi from the post of chief justice. "The remark by the party president [on whether nor not Regmi should resign from the post of chief justice] is his personal view," he said. [break]
Paudel said that it would not be wise for party leaders to stir controversy over the issue of Regmi´s holding two posts. He clarified that NC has already decided to go to election under the chief justice-led government. "Let´s not cast doubt on Khil Raj ji," he said. "Let´s allow him to work as per the given mandate."
Paudel also alleged that the media exaggerated the remark made by Koirala. According to Paudel, what Koirala had said was that Regmi should be prepared to quit the post of chief justice if his resignation paves the way for all the agitating parties to participate in the election.
He also said that election was more important issue than Regmi´s resignation as chief justice and that the parties should now focus on election. "Our worry should be about how to hold fresh elections in free and fair manner. Let´s not run after his resignation," said Paudel, adding that none of the parties should backtrack from their previous agreement to allow chief justice led government to hold fresh election by mid-December.
On the occasion, Paudel directed party cadres to work in the grassroots to make sure that the NC emerges as the lasrgest party in the upcoming election and the country is rid of the political crisis. "There has not been anything about alliance yet. NC is capable of contesting election alone." He also informed that CA election will be held by mid-December and local level election would be held by mid-April.
