KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to manage stray cattle in the city.  According to KMC Mayor Balendra Shah aka Balen, any cattle to be found on the streets will be rescued by the local government and transported to a shelter for animals  known as the 'Kanji house' at Kopugaun of Dakshinkali Municipality-7.

"Stray cattle are left starved. They do not have access to drinking water and medical care when needed. In addition to this, their presence on the streets has increased the risk of road accidents. So we have decided to manage them at the Kanji house," Mayor Balen wrote on the social networking site Facebook.

The mayor said 10 metric tons of silage has been purchased to feed the stray cattle and two workers have been contracted on a daily basis to provide care for the cattle. The Dakshinkali Municipality is to cooperate with the KMC for the management of stray cattle, it is said.
