KMC is now planning to exploring possibility of linking the Maitighar-Bagbazaar area with the Bishnumati corridor. [break]
According to the KMC executive chief Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, his office is seeking support from donors to implement the plan. Though the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division a year ago removed concrete dividers from the busy roads in Maitighar, Singhadurbar, Pualisadak, Thapathali and Tripureswar, it is yet to remove the dividers from other areas.
“Due to lack of adequate green dividers, the traffic division had moved the concrete dividers to the core areas,” Adhikari claimed adding “We are seeking the support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for this.”
KMC also aims to construct 10-km pavement, develop drainage system and replace the electric poles. Similarly, management of streetlights through solar power is also among the priorities.
The 2.8 km Bishnumati corridor begins from Teku bridge, passes through Chagal, Kankeshori, Indrayani, and Khusibu linking the Thamel-Balaju road section and end at Sorhakhutte Chowk.
“This corridor has transformed into one of the best-looking areas in the valley. This has encouraged us to start the expansion project,” said Adhikari. ADB had approved Rs 143 million for expansion of the corridor in 2008.
