KMC monitoring on waste management begins

KATHMANDU, July 4: The Kathmandu Municipal Corporation (KMC) has begun monitoring of the waste management in hospitals and hotels in the capital.



Accordingly, a monitoring team of the KMC visited the Hotel Soaltee, Tahachal and the Martyrs Memorial Hospital in Kalanki on Thursday.[break]



During the monitoring Hotel Soaltee was found to be mixing degradable and non-degradable waste while the Maryrs Memorial Hospital too was found collecting waste at a single point, according to Chief of the KMC Environment Department, Sadhuram Bhattarai.



As this was the first offense, both the sides were left with a warning as per the Waste Management Act 2068 B.S. The local body has been authorized to award a penalty including a fine up to Rs. 500,000 and three months imprisonment.

imilarly, the monitoring team had warned on Wednesday the management of Medicare, Om and Tilganga hospitals after they were found not meeting the waste management standards.



The monitoring work will continue its work ahead, said Executive Officer of KMC Laxman Aryal.
