KATHMANDU, June 10: The kin of Gita Chaudhary, 24, a graduate in English literature about to fly to Australia for further studies who died under mysterious circumstances in her rented room at Samakhushi, have threatened the government of protests if the investigation in her case is delayed.

Chaudhary, originally from Rupauliya-8, Nawalparashi district, had been living alone in a house owned by Lekhman Shrestha since the last two years. She was found with the lower half of her body naked and dozens of bruises and blood stains, according to the police. According to DSP Ramesh Basnet, of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Hanuman Dhoka, the investigation is under way and the police are awaiting postmortem report. [break]

Quoting doctors involved in the investigation, a kin of Chaudhary said, ´We suspect murder after rape but it is better to wait for the reports. Samples might have to be sent abroad for proper investigation.´

Chaudhary"s door was locked from inside. The police was called to break open the door after repeated calls to Chaudhary"s mobile by her kin went unanswered. She was found dead lying on one side of the bed with the window of her room open from where anybody could easily enter the room.

According the police, the other people living in the building had not heard any screams during the night and they didn"t saw anybody entering her room.

Sudama Mahato, 36, brother of Chaudhary, said she was very excited about going abroad for studies and there was no chance of her committing suicide. She never had the habit of opening the window, according to the family members. ´She had received a letter from a university in Australia but all her dreams have gone in vain now,´ her brother Sudama said. Anita Chaudhary, 24, a friend of the victim, said that she did not have any love affair and never showed any sign of frustration.

The police have shortlisted some suspects and are awaiting medical reports to carry forward the investigations. According to Inspector Kabit Katwal, chief of the Lainchaur Police, though the kin of the victim claim it to be a murder, some evidences gathered from the room suggest suicides as well.

Kin of Chaudhary have said they will announce their protest program on Tuesday organizing a press conference in the Kathmandu. They had called a strike for an hour in Nawalparasi district to protest the mysterious death.
