At a time when demand for clothing, shoes and accessories has gone up in the market, demand for perfume has not shown any significant change. Traders say that demand for perfume is same through out the year as it is a luxury item and there is no season for it as such.

“Choosing a perfume differs from one person to another as it depends on occasion, personality, style, age and choice. Hence, even one individual can own variety of brands so there is no impact on sales during special occasions,” said Mohan Lama, proprietor of Ylang Ylang at Bishal Bazar.

Many perfume stores around the valley are said to be selling duplicate perfumes under prestigious brand names. Lama said due to this reason many traders selling original branded products are facing problem as customers do not believe that the products are original.

Ylang Ylang does not import the products without receiving orders from customers. “I take orders from customers then only I bring reputed original brands at my store,” informed Lama.

There are variety of perfumes available in the market but Lama cautions not be fooled in by attractive bottle of the perfumes.

According to him, the buyers should look at the content of alcohol in the perfume as the more alcohol it contains, the more expensive it becomes. Perfume contains alcohol, water, color and fragrances and the class and the price are determined by their alcohol content.
