Khotang Sumo accident: Injured Rai dies during treatment (Update)

The accident occurred when the Sumo (Na 1 Ja 7181), traveling from Kathmandu to Kepilasgadhi-1, plunged about 200 meters off the road.

UDAYAPUR, Dec 26:  Durga Prasad Rai, a 72-year-old man who was critically injured in a Tata Sumo accident in Kepilasgadhi, Khotang, has died while receiving treatment.


The accident occurred when the Sumo (Na 1 Ja 7181), traveling from Kathmandu to Kepilasgadhi-1, plunged about 200 meters off the road. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle rolled back after the driver exited to remove bamboo while the vehicle was stopped.

Rai, who sustained severe injuries, was promptly rescued and taken to the district hospital in Diktel. However, he succumbed to his injuries at 8:30 pm, according to police reports.


The driver, Shatrudhan Rai, fled the scene immediately after the incident but has since made contact with the local police station. Authorities have stated that further investigations are underway.


The body of deceased Rai has been sent to the district hospital for a postmortem.
