ILAM, Jan 31: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Thursday accused UCPN (Maoist) of shutting down the door to consensus.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilam Bazar, Khanal said that  the ruling collation parties closed the door for talks with opposition parties and that they decided to lunch street agitation against the wish of the opposition to continue with the talks.[break]

On the occasion, Chairman Khanal, however, clarified that opposition parties’ street agitation is not aimed at cornering the ruling Maoist party but exerting pressure on them for national consensus.

“The agitation is being not launched as our bid for power but as an effort to pressurize the parties for national consensus,” Khanal argued.

Khanal arrived in the district to lay down the foundation stone of a polytechnic institute to be set up in his native Skhejung village.
