POKHARA, April 7: CPN-UML leader Khagraj Adhikari has been appointed as the chief minister (CM) of Gandaki Province.

Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatt appointed Adhikari as the chief minister with the support of more than two parties in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution on Sunday.

Only on Sunday morning, Adhikari, the leader of the Gandaki Province UML parliamentary party, submitted his claim to the position of CM. Adhikari has also received the support of Krishna Dhital, who became the Speaker from the CPN (Maoist Center).

Following the resignation of the outgoing Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Pandey due to shifts in the power dynamics at the Center, Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta extended the deadline, as per Article 168(2) of the Constitution, for submitting claims until 3 o'clock on April 8.

The support of 31 members of the provincial assembly - 22 from the CPN-UML, 8 from the Maoist Center and 1 from an independent provincial member - was submitted to the province chief to make Adhikari the chief minister.

The Nepali Congress has 27 members, and RPP has 2 members in the provincial assembly.
