Khadka takes lead after third round

KATHMANDU, OCT 31: Rabi Khadka carded one-under 66 to take sole lead after the third round of the Surya Nepal Challenge, the fourth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2013-14, at the par-67 Royal Nepal Golf Club, Kathmandu, on Thursday.



After the three-day total of two-under 199, the Nepal No 2 pro from RNGC is one stroke ahead of defending champion Ram Thapa and top pro Shiva Ram Shrestha of RNGC. Ram played three-over 70, while Shiva Ram carded one-under 66 to share the second position at even-par 201.[break]



Army pro Dhana Thapa is fourth at 202 after he played four-over 71, while Gokarna Golf Club´s Umesh Nagarkoti (71) is fifth at 203. Likewise, Yelambar Singh Adhikari played three-over 70 to remain sixth at five-over 206, while Sanjay Lama is next at 207.



Dharan pro Mani Rai is eighth with the total score of seven-over 208, while Krishna Man Rajbahak is next at 209. CB Bhandari and Surya Prasad Sharma share the 10th position with the total score of nine-over 210.



In Amateur section, Bikash Bogati carded even-par 67 for a total of even-par 201 to stay atop the standings. He is joint second overall. Neeraj SJB Rana and Bishnu Sharma share the second position in amateur section with the total score of 13-over 214. Tanka Bahadur Karki is fourth at 215.



In the main event, leader Khadka carded two-under 31 on the front nine and played one-over 35 on the back nine. He carded birdies on the fourth and seventh holes on the front nine. On the back nine, Khadka suffered bogeys on the 10th and 13th holes against a lone birdie on the 11th hole.



Ram Thapa played one-over 34 on the front nine and added two-over 36 on the back nine, while Shrestha carded two-under 31 on the front nine before playing one-over 35 on the back nine.



A total of 27 players -- 22 pros and five amateur golfers -- have made the cut in the tournament organized by Nepal PGA under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The tournament carries a total cash purse of Rs 363,000 with top three pros receiving Rs 65,000, Rs 42,000 and Rs 30,000 after the final round on Friday.
