Katuwal, Baidya into pre-quarters

KATHMANDU: Sandesh Katuwal of APCA and Prafulla Baidya of Yeti Airlines on Wednesday advanced into the pre-quarterfinals of blue category in the men´s singles event of the Annapurna Corporate Badminton Championship at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar.



Katuwal edged past Andrew Dahal of Team Quest 22-20, 21-18 and Baidya overcame Rudra Thing of Sukam 21-16, 21-11. [break]



In other matches of the same category, Bhawani Angdembe of Angdembe Construction, Suraj Singh of Himalayan Air, Badri Karki of Clean Energy, Santosh Moktan of Kabeli Tours and Travels, Gyaljan Sherpa of Mountain Tribes, Tulsi Subedi of ADB, Ganesh Prasad Sharma of Century Bank, Umeshraj Bhandari of Baglung Udyog, Nawaraj Joshi of Nepal SBI, Bishal Khadka of Kaski Finance and Ankur Shrestha of Raniban Retreat registered wins to enter the pre-quarterfinals.



Central fixes final with Eastern



KATHMANDU: Central Region A and Eastern Region on Wednesday advanced into the boys´ final of the National School Handball Championship being held at the Army Physical Training and Sports Complex in Lagankhel. Central Region A thumped Mid-western Region 26-8 riding on 12 points of Samriddha Maharjan.



Meanwhile, Eastern Region toiled hard to beat Central Region B 17-14. In the girls´ section, Eastern Region beat Central Region B 13-6 to set up a final with Western Region that overcame Mid-western Region A 14-9.



Valley Public wins title



KATHMANDU: Valley Public on Wednesday lifted the title of Fifth PABSON Inter-school Girls´ Basketball Tournament held in the capital. Valley Public edged past HHCA 27-8 in the final as Laxmi Chaudhary and Sony Waiba netted 12 points each for the winning team.



Prithvi took the third place honors defeating Kathmandu English School 34-25 riding on 17 points from Chhiring Gole. Sonia Limbu of Valley Public was declared the most valuable player while her teammate Sony Waiba took home the highest scorer award. Sanju Rai of HHCA won the award for best three-pointer.
