Lochan Acharya, Surendra Bajgain, and Ishan raised Rs 229,000 by appealing to young people around the country and abroad. Some of the money was distributed to the families of Sohan Kalwar from Parsa, Hifajat Miya from Bara, and Birendra Ram from Saptari on December 28. Actor Karma met the families in Birgunj where he handed out the money and shared a few moments with each family.Just two weeks before, the trio had completed a 37-day journey from Mahakali to Mechi on foot with the objective of spreading the message of respecting Tarai-Madhesh region. During this journey, they also met with nine different families who lost their loved ones in the Tarai riot.
When they went back to Kathmandu and relayed their journey to friends, they found many people interested to help them. Hence, they decided to help the families with small children, and those who didn't have land to farm in as well as those whose breadwinner lost his life.
"We've set up a fund from the money we collected. We've allocated Rs 5,000 for the children of each family which they will receive every three months. The children will continue to receive this support till they reach 16 years of age," Ishan said.
According to the press release, the trio hopes to collect more funds which will provide for the families till the children are 16 years of age. The fund will go toward meeting the basic needs of the children such as nutritious food, clothes, and educational materials.
