Kathmandu Valley reports 767 new COVID-19 cases, taking caseload to 16,416

Valley alone has one fourth of the total cases confirmed across the country

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: The Kathmandu Valley, the federal capital of the country, reported as many as 767 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

The Valley alone witnessed 57.86 percent of the total daily count of COVID-19 cases confirmed across the country in the past one day. The daily count stands at 1,325 on Sunday, according to Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the MoHP.

Of the total confirmed  COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Kathmandu district alone reported 602 while 101 in Bhaktapur and 64 others from Lalitpur were found to have contracted the virus.

With this, the total caseload in the Valley has jumped to 16,416 which accounts for the one-fourth of the confirmed cases throughout the country since the first case was reported on January 24.

All three districts in the Valley have more than 500 active cases of this disease. Six other districts with 500 plus active cases are Chitwan, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Rupandehi and Makwanpur, according to the ministry.
