Kathmandu School of Law wins 4th BRU Memorial Foundation Moot Court competition

KATHMANDU, July 10: Kathmandu School of Law (KSL) has won the 4th Bharat Raj Upreti (BRU) Memorial Foundation Moot Court Competition (Arbitration), 2023.


The KSL team emerged as winners in the 4th BRU Memorial Foundation Moot Court Competition (Arbitration) and Conference, 2023, which took place in Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday. Nepal Law Campus secured the runner-up position in the competition.


Nepal Law Campus was also awarded the Best Memorial, while Sonika Neupane from National Law College was honored with the Best Speaker award. The final rounds of the arbitration were judged by renowned legal professionals including Senior Advocate Mahesh Thapa, Advocate Sameer Sharma, and Advocate Anup Raj Upreti.

The competition witnessed participation from 10 law schools from across Nepal, including Bright Vision Law College, Biratnagar; Chakrabarti HaBi Education Academy, Kathmandu; City Campus Butwal, Butwal; Gandaki University, Pokhara; Kathmandu School of Law, Bhaktapur; Kathmandu University School of Law, Dhulikhel; Mid-Western University School of Law, Surkhet; National Law College, Lalitpur; Nepal Law Campus, Kathmandu; and Prithivi Narayan Campus, Pokhara.


Supreme Court Justice Hari Phuyal graced the BRU conference as the chief guest. The panel discussion during this year's conference centered around contemporary company law issues prevalent in the Nepali legal practice. Distinguished panelists included Judge Mahesh Sharma Poudel from Patan High Court, retired Judge of the Patan High Court Dwarika Man Joshi, and Senior Advocate Mahesh Thapa. The conference, moderated by Advocate Anup Raj Upreti, saw the participation of judges, government officials, senior advocates, lawyers, and students from Nepal's legal community.


The BRU Conference also featured a book launch event for the second edition of ‘Bharat Sir ko Company Kanoon’. The reprint version of the book was unveiled by Justice Phuyal of the Supreme Court and High Court Judge Anju Upreti Dhakal.


Since 2018, the BRU Foundation has been organizing the moot court competition (arbitration) and conference with the aim of fostering knowledge and understanding of corporate law among students and practicing lawyers. Established in 2015 in memory of the Honorable Justice of the Supreme Court, Late Bharat Raj Upreti, the BRU Foundation continues to make significant contributions to legal education and practice.
