Kathmandu reaches quarterfinals

HETAUDA, Oct 23: Kathmandu entered the quarterfinals of the Ncell 15th National Women´s Football Tournament defeating Dolakha 4-0 at the Gauritar Ground in Makawanpur on Wednesday.



Devi Gurung opened the scoring for Kathmandu in the 19th minute of the match. Elisa Shah doubled the lead in the 24th minute and scored her second in the 40th minute to give Kathmandu a 3-0 lead before the break. Rabina Maharjan added a fourth in the 68th minute to wrap up victory.[break]



Kathmandu had thrashed Saptari 12-0 in the first round while Dolakha had edged Makawanpur on penalties. Kathmandu will meet the winner of the match between Chitwan and Nepal Army in the quarterfinal. "We will probably face Nepal Army in the quarterfinal but we are prepared to take on any opponent," said Kathmandu coach Devendra Jung Shahi.



Meanwhile, Nawalparasi defeated Surkhet 3-0 at the Kirtipur Ground in Sunawal, Nawalparasi on Wednesday. Sushma Kewat, Ranjana Lama and Hasina Begam were on target for the host.



In the second match held at the same venue, Mina Chaudhary scored a hat-trick to give Kailali a 3-1 victory over Taplejung. Chaudhary scored the first goal in the ninth minute and added two more in the 50th and 77th minutes to complete a hat-trick.
