Karki reprimanded for breaching code

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Nepali U-19 cricketer Krishna Karki along with three other international players has been reprimanded and warned after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers which concluded Tuesday in Ireland.



Karki has been found guilty of breaching ICC´s clothing and equipment regulations under Article 2.1.1. He was found wearing skinner of blue color with the logo of Nike, which has not been officially endorsed by the Nepali national team. Canada´s captain Kevasan Juvarajan was also found guilty for the same reason. [break]



Norman Vanua of Papua New Guinea breached Article 2.1.3, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire´s decision” while USA captain Gregory Sewdial also received a reprimand from the referee for breaching Article 2.1.2, which deals with the “abuse of cricket equipment”.



The four players admitted to Level-1 breaches and accepted the proposed sanctions, so no hearings were required. All were reprimanded and warned by tournament referee David Jukes.


Insurance for cricketers

NB Insurance Company has announced to cover insurance for the players of the U-19 national cricket team that recently qualified for the U-19 World Cup. Issuing a press release, managing director of the company Bikrant Pandey said that the players will be given personal accident insurance of Rs 500,000 each. He said through his small help, the players will be motivated to play much better for the U-19 World Cup. In the release, Pandey asserted his commitments to come up with new concepts in sports insurance for the benefit of players.



Queensland to host ICC U19 WC 2012

Cricket Australia (CA) said the Queensland Government will host the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in August 2012, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The partnership between the International Cricket Council (ICC), CA, Queensland Cricket and Events Queensland will see Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Townsville hosting teams from around the globe in August next year, with Australia, as current defending champion, aiming to go back-to-back on home soil, the ICC reported on its official website Wednesday.



Nepal is one of the qualifiers to participate in the event.



It will be the second time that the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup will be held in Australia, after the inaugural event in 1988. The event will showcase the world´s best emerging players, broadcasting their talents around the globe to millions of television viewers via ESPN STAR Sports.



Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said everyone is looking forward to watching exciting young talents on show.



“The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup is the showcase event for best young cricketers in the world and is where the next Cameron White or a Yuvraj Singh gets his first real taste of top-level international cricket,” Sutherland said.
