KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Outgoing Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa has said that he will start a campaign in favor of Hindu nation from January 11.
Dissatisfied with party President Rajendra Lingden and former king Gyanendra Shah, Thapa held a meeting of RPP leaders in the capital on Wednesday and said that he would launch a separate campaign on Hindu . Sources said Thapa will no longer uphold the agenda of constitutional monarchy.

Stating that Lingden was active with the support of the former king, he had opined that the party could not be unified. Claiming that they were in favor of party unity, they said that it was possible to form a new party as the leadership was not ready for it. “He (Thapa) said that he was campaigning in favor of constitutional monarchy and Hinduism," said one of the participants. “The conclusion was if the king keeps pressuring, it’s not necessary to restore monarchy.”
Stating that he would be active as a campaigner for some time before the local elections, Thapa said that a new party could be formed after that if necessary. "Thapa hopes to open a new party before the local elections," said one of the participants. “We are continuously working to stop that step.”
Thapa, who was defeated as the party chairman, has been saying that he will start a new campaign from a party palace in ThapaGaun on January 11. Thapa, who has been raising the agenda of monarchy and Hindu nation, has been accusing that he lost the RPP chairmanship due to former king Gyanendra Shah. Thapa has written a letter to the party chairman demanding an investigation into the matter.
