Kalikot receives Rs 40m remittances in month

KALIKOT, Jan. 15: A remote district in the Far-Western Development Region, Kalikot, is receiving remittance of around Rs. 40 million in a month.



The remittance agencies working in the Kalikot district headquarters, Manma, has claimed that the district receives the remittances mostly from India, Malaysia, and Gulf countries.



The transaction of the remittance was increasing daily of late, according to the Himchuli Agricultural Co-operative, the first money transfer organization. The Rastriya Banijya Bank, IME, Prabhu, and Western Union Money Transfer, among others have been providing the remittance service in the district of late.



The service recipients express their happiness after the district gets some money transformers though they were not sufficient. They had to spend large sum of money to go to Surkhet just to receive the remittance.



However, no industries and income generating organizations were established except a Poultry Farm run by Parek Shahi at Manma. The locals here spend the money that they received as remittance just for land and house transaction business rather than utilizing it in income- generating projects.
