KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Kaligandaki 'A' Hydroelectric Power Project located in Mirmi, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality 7 of Syangja has been producing 96 megawatts of electricity daily.

Project Head of Kaligandaki 'A' Hydroelectric Power Project, Mirmi, Pashupatiraj Gautam said that during the festival of Dashain and Tihar, the industries and factories do not operate completely and the electricity generated is not consumed.

"From time to time, the machines need to be repaired/replaced," he said. "At other times, there is a problem of lack of electricity during maintenance. So, we have repaired it on the occasion of festivals to make it easier for consumers, industries, and factories."

Gautam stated that the production was stopped for five days during the Dashain holidays. He said that the repair work of two turbines has been completed and repair work of the remaining one turbine will take place until Tihar.

As the water level in Kaligandaki River has increased, all the gates in the dam have now been opened. "94 cubic meters of water per second is required to run two turbines," he said, "Currently, the flow of water in the river is 1,200 cubic meters per second."

He said that the gate will be closed only in the second week of November as the flow of river water is increasing.

With the closing of the dam, a seven kilometer long reservoir will be formed in the river and steamer service is being operated in the same reservoir. The water transport services, which are currently suspended due to rains, will resume as soon as the water level in the river recedes.

Water transport has been operating from Mirmi (Aandhi Muhan) in Syangja to Syangja, Parbat and Setiveni Shila, a religious and touristic place located at the confluence of Gulmi.
