RAJBIRAJ, Oct 7: Police on Sunday evening arrested Muneshowr Mandal, aka Manish, who is one of the country´s most wanted men in Saptari.

The 46-year-old leader of the outlawed Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM), who faces multiple criminal charges, was caught from a village that borders on Mandal district of India.

The Saptari police chief, Superintendent of Police, Dinesh Amatya, said that they were able to nab Mandal from Lalapatti area, after receiving specific information about his whereabouts from their “special sources”.

“We were looking for him for a long time. And we have finally caught him,” said SP Amatya. According to Amatya, they had increased surveillance along the border areas after they were tipped off a few weeks ago that he would pass through the area.

Mandal has been convicted with murder, abduction and extortion charges. “He was on the run after killing Sailesh Kumar Mandal, 25, on April 3, 2010,” said Amatya. The other involved in the murder case are still at large.

Sailesh Mandal, who was with his personal bodyguard, was shot dead.

Before joining JTMM, Manish, who is originally from Launiya VDC-1, was an area commander of Akhil Terai Mukti Morcha led by Jay Krishna Goit.

He had left the original outfit after it had split.

Manish had been terrorizing the people of Saptari with his criminal activities, including extortions.

The police believe that Manish was the kingpin behind major crimes carried out by both the outfits.

“The information which we will gather from Manish will definitely help us crackdown on criminal activities in the district,” said Amatya.

Only last week, the Saptari police had arrested Lalji Majhi of Yoginiya VDC-7. He was the personal chef of Goit.
