JANAKPUR, Jan 14: One of the three Tarai armed groups that were reported to have merged said here on Wednesday that the unification never took place.

A leader of Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Pawan Group), Sanjay Gupta alias Kautilya told a press conference in Janakpur that since his group is already in negotiation with the government, the group has no intention to merge with other two groups that have so far spurned the government’s offer of dialogue.

“We are powerful on our own,” said Gupta. “We are a political party and we don’t need anyone’s support. And, negotiations with the government are also moving forward in a positive note.”

On Tuesday, media had reported that JTMM-Pawan, JTMM-Jwala and Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha (ATMM) had united under a new name “Tarai Janatantrik Party”.

Pawan Giri, the leader of the JTMM-Pawan, told the press conference by telephone that his group hasn’t united with any other group.
