SAPTARI, Nov 24: Thirty-three girls and 11 women faced sexual assault in Saptari district in the last 11 months, the Informal Sector Services Centre (INSEC), Saptari has stated. 


The human rights non-government organization shared this information in the annual review seminar organized here on Friday prior to the publication of the incidents of human rights violation and atrocities collected in Saptari district for feeding to the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2019. 


As per the information shared on the occasion, 33 incidents of rape against girls and 11 incidents of rape against women as well as 13 incidents of attempted rape against girls and four incidents of attempted rape against women were reported in the district during that period.

The report made public by INSEC representative Manohar Kumar Pokharel states that 33 girls, including a two-year-old and a three-year-old girls, became the victims of rape out of the 32 incidents of rape on girls. 


Out of the 43 people accused of raping girls, 17 are under detention and arrest warrant has been issued against 11 while six are absconding. The accused are between 12 to 65 years. 


Women from 19 to 70 years have become the victims in the 11 rape incidents against them. The 24 people accused of raping women are between 17 to 65 years of age. Among them, 10 are in detention, seven are on the large and arrest warrant has been issued against six while one has been acquitted. 


In the four incidents of sexual harassment on women, four women have become the victims and five persons have been accused. 


Similarly, 13 incidents of sexual harassment on girls were reported in the district in the last 11 months. Sixteen people are accused in these incidents and they are between 13 to 65 years.
