KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Federal Council Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has put forward two options as disagreements surfaced in the ruling coalition over the ratification of US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The first option, he said, was for all coalition parties to vote in favor of the MCC in the parliament. However, in the current situation, this does not seem possible. The Rastriya Janamorcha of the five-party alliance is in a street agitation. Although the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) are in the government, they have been mobilizing their sister organizations against the MCC. Even within the JSP, there are two factions. Even if Nepali Congress is in favor of MCC ratification, it doesn’t hold the majority alone.
Bhattarai has put forward another option: forming a new political equation. The main opposition UML is needed to make the new equation. Despite discussions between the NC and UML leaders on this issue, no agreement has been reached so far.
