Around 40 professors, experts, and journalists from different countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Norway, Pakistan and Nicaragua have been participating in the seminar organized by the College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC).[break]
Inaugurating the seminar, Vice-president Parmanand Jha said though journalism is challenging as a profession, the media persons have a great responsibility to institutionalize Loktantra, good governance, and informing the people.
On the occasion, Vice-president Jha appraised the role of CJMC for encouraging women in journalism sector for women’s empowerment.
The college has been conducting two-year classes in masters´ level on mass communications with aid from the Government of Norway. As per the program, different seven Nepali students have got scholarships at Dhaka University and Students from Bangladesh have been learning at CJMC.
Speaking at the program, Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Alf Arne Ramslien said the overall economic development in this era is not possible without the development of communication, adding Norway is ready to undertake partnership for the development of education and other developmental works with Nepal.
Principal of CJMC Manju Mishra said the Asia Regional College has been encouraging the youths to be skilled and capable in journalism since its establishment.
Professor Thore Roksvold of Oslo University College, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Arifin Siddique, Chairman of University Grant Commission Prof. Ganeshman Gurung, Prof. Bishal Sitaula and others discussed about the indispensable role of communication sector in facing poverty, climate change, and ignorance and stressed for developing new technology in this sector to manage the knowledge gained in this age.
