KATHMANDU, Sept 5: A writ petition filed by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Shyam Lal Gyawali and four other police officers has been scheduled for hearing by the bench of Supreme Court Justices Sapna Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal.
The petitioners submitted their application to the Supreme Court on August 28, requesting not to be retired according to the age limit. In the initial hearing on August 29, Justice Saranga Subedi's bench refused to issue an interim order and instead requested a written response from the defendants. The bench also ordered both parties to appear for discussions regarding the interim order.

According to the petition, AIG Gyawali, Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) Yagya Binod Pokharel, Kedar Dhakal, Rajesh Nath Bastola, and Inspector Nagendra Thakur filed the writ at the Apex Court on Wednesday, challenging the enforcement of retirement at different age limits according to their positions. They are facing mandatory retirement due to the age limit as per their positions. The Nepal Police Personnel Records Office has already sent them retirement notices.
The petitioners argue that the enforcement of retirement based on the age limit mentioned in the notice does not comply with previous Supreme Court verdicts and have also requested an interim order to prevent the implementation of the retirement notices issued by the Nepal Police Personnel Records Office.
