Jitendra continues winning streak in lawn tennis

KATHMANDU, March 28: Jitendra Pariyar continued his winning streak in the Seventh Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championship, being held at the Armed Police Force headquarters at Halchowk, Kathmandu, beating Shakti Sharma 6-0 and 6-0 and progressed into men’s singles semifinal on Friday.

Likewise, Abhishek Bastola, Dawa Sherpa and Kamal Bhandari also joined Jitendra in the semis winning their respective men’s singles matches.


While Abhishek sealed a 6-4, 2-6 and 6-1 win over Milan Rokkaya, Dawa came back from a set down to stun Santosh Khatri 3-6, 6-2 and 6-2, and Kamal registered a 6-3 and 6-2 win over Anil Shahi.




Meanwhile, Ganga Sharma, Mahika Rana, Ira Rawat and Mayanka Rana also reached women’s singles semifinal winning their respective quarterfinal matches.

Ganga won her match against Abhilasha Bista 6-3 and 6-0; Mahika brushed aside the challenge of Khushi Pandey 6-0 and 6-2; Ira laboured to defeat Kathy Mathema 6-4 and 6-4; and Mayanka thumped Alisha Regmi 6-0 and 6-0.  



In mixed doubles matches, pair of Chhewang Lama and Khushi Pandey defeated the pair of Pranav Khanal and Mahika Rana 6-3 and 6-0 to reach the semifinal while the pair of Kamal Bhandari and Ganga Sharma advanced to the semifinal after receiving a walkover by the Kulbahadur Rai-Bhagwati BK pair.



Meanwhile, Durga Bahadur Kunwar, Rohit Sunuwar, Raju Shrestha and Mahesh Shrestha reached veteran’s 35 years and above semifinals as team of Manoj Rana and Jhyampa Dhandup and team of Gyanendra Tamrakar and Gautamlal Pradhan reached veteran’s 55 years and above finals.



Rajojman Shrestha, Binod Kayastha, Manoj Shah and Krishnaraj Ghale reached veteran’s 45 years and above semifinals while Victor Sumsher Rana reached veteran’s 65 years and above semifinals.



Durja Kumar Rai and Pradeep Bikram Shah reached the inter governmental service events singles winning their respective matches.
