(Updated with cancellation of oath-taking ceremony)

KATHMANDU, Aug 30
: Vice President Parmananda Jha said he would ignore the government’s decision of re-administrating his oath in Nepali language in a press conference on Sunday.[break]

Jha said that he would re-think about the oath only after the parliament takes decision on the bill about oath-taking in the language of choice.

After Jha´s press conference, the President’s Office has canceled the oath-taking ceremony of Parmananda Jha scheduled at 4 p.m.

In a press release he read out during the press conference at his office, he slammed the Supreme Court for illegalizing his oath-taking in Hindi language saying that the verdict wrongly interpreted the Interim Constitution.

“There is no meaning of the SC verdict other than creating conflict on language issue,” he said adding that the interim constitution has recognized all language spoken in Nepal as national language.

Terming issues relating to language, religion, community and culture sensitive and affirming his commitment on Nepal’s sovereignty and unity, Jha also added that the issue had brought about ‘serious constitutional crisis‘.

Details to follow.
