Japan donates children’s home in Humla district

The Government of Japan officially handed over a new children’s home building in Humla District on December 11.

KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The Government of Japan officially handed over a new children’s home building in Humla District on December 11. The project, funded with USD 124,267 (approximately Rs 13.5 million) under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), aims to support children without family protection.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, Takahiro Tamura, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of Japan to Nepal, attended the ceremony and praised the efforts behind the project. The newly built facility can accommodate up to 30 children and will also serve as a community training center.


The project, implemented by Rural Empowerment and Development Initiative (READI, Humla), is expected to improve the welfare of children in the district. Since 1991, Japan has supported over 200 GGP projects in Nepal to promote socio-economic development at the grassroots level, the press release stated.
