JANAKPURDHAM, July 27: Emergency and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) wards at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur have been sealed off following the death of a novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient.

A 38-year-old male patient from Sahidnagar Municipality-8, Dumariya in Dhanusha district, who was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, died on Sunday afternoon. His swab samples tested positive for COVID-19 later.

Following the confirmation of COVID-19 infection in the deceased, the ICU ward has been sealed for seven days and the emergency ward for another 24 hours, according to Dr Jamun Prasad Singh, the coordinator of the District COVID-19 Isolation Wards.

“A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held earlier on Monday took this decision,” said Dr Singh.

Due to the lack of ventilators at the hospital, the patient had been referred to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) for further treatment. However, the youth breathed his last while being taken to BPKIHS.

“The dead body will be cremated according to the COVID-19 protocol. Nepal Army personnel are making necessary preparations in this regard,” said Dr Singh.
