MAHENDRANAGAR (DHANUSHA), April 29: The Janaki Temple in Janakpur Dham launched the formal celebrations for the sacred Janaki Jayanti on Monday.
The Janaki Temple has organized a program where, starting today, the temple will hold Ram Katha recitations every day at 4 p.m. At 7 p.m., it will celebrate Janaki’s birth with devotional songs and cultural programs in the temple’s sanctum. The temple’s successor, Mahant Ramroshan Das, stated that the Akhand Ramayan recitation will also continue regularly.

On the main celebration day, May 6 (Tuesday), Janaki’s royal bath will take place at the Dudhmathi River at 5 a.m. The same day, the birth arati and devotional songs will occur at 12 p.m., followed by a palanquin procession at 4 p.m. and a special arati and Deepotsav (festival of lights) at 7 p.m.
Every evening at 7 p.m., from Janaki’s birth until the sixth day, the temple’s sanctum will host Janaki Jayanti songs. The temple management committee also announced that it will hold a special Matkor worship program in Janakpur Dham on May 7. The Sitaram Bibaha Mahotsav (celebration of Sita and Ram’s wedding) will take place with religious and cultural songs on May 8.
On the same day, Sadhya Devi will conduct a special Ram Katha reading as part of the Manas Mohini event. Mahant Ramroshan Das further shared that extensive preparations are in progress to celebrate Janaki Jayanti with great pomp and grandeur in Janakpur Dham.
